Lesson 42 Aquatic Ecosystem: Lakes and Ponds. As geographers study the many ecosystems around the world, many similarities or patterns become evident.
We are learning about the pond. Ponds usually have four seasons. Sometimes they are hot or cold. Ponds are small bodies of fresh water.
Pond Ecology.  Lakes and ponds are bodies of open standing water  Their physical conditions and life vary with distance from the shore.
Our habitat is the pond. A pond is a small area of still fresh water. Ponds are like small worlds. It smells very bad. It doesn't take up much space.

Lakes And Ponds By: Jordan Caswell and Robbie Marth

What Do They Look Like A pond is small and shallow enough to support rooted plants. Sometimes plants grow all the way across the pond. A lake is much larger than a pond and is too deep to support rooted plants except near the shore. Some lakes are big enough for waves to be produced.

What Producers Grow There Algae Algae Water lilies Water lilies Duckweed Duckweed Cattails Cattails Reeds Reeds

What Consumers Live There Fish Fish Birds Birds Frogs Frogs Turtles Turtles Insects Insects

Where Are They Located They are located just about anywhere. They are located just about anywhere. Some of the larger ones are located in: Asia, N. America, and Africa. Some of the larger ones are located in: Asia, N. America, and Africa.

What Plant And Animal Adaptations Have Evolved There Plants such as Cattails and Reeds are rooted in the bottom mud, their upper leaves and stems emerging above the water. Some species of Water Beetles use hairs under their bodies to trap surface air to breathe during their dives for food. How Are Humans Affecting Lakes And Ponds Sometimes humans let sewage or waste runoff into lakes or ponds causing the process called eutrophication to accelerate. Sometimes humans let sewage or waste runoff into lakes or ponds causing the process called eutrophication to accelerate.
