The Sacred Dog Adapted from: The Gift of the Sacred Dog By: Paul Goble Powerpoint created by: Emma A. 2012

Once there lived a group of people. They had been following the buffalo herds for a very long time.

When they found a good place to camp, the wise men danced the buffalo dance.

One young man went up hills to speak to the gods. He asked them to provide food for the people.

The young man said to the Great Spirit, “My people need food.”

A great storm grew and the Great Spirit said “I will give you strength.”

Horses of all colors circled in the sky. They followed the young man to the camp.

The people fed the horses flowers and weeds.

When they were done they looked at the pond and saw buffalo.

Two men made a circle out of the buffalo skulls. They thanked the Great Spirit for the food.
