Welcome! Honors Algebra Room C220 Block 1 Mrs. Kelly Kielkucki

What you need for ALGEBRA I HONORS! A Binder split with sections for Notes, Standard Checks, and HW (I recommend a Inch) A TI 84 Graphing Calculator Something to write with – I prefer pencil (we all make mistakes) A positive attitude!

Notecard Information On side with NO Lines write your first name/nickname (School Appropriate) On Back side fill in the following info. –Full Name –Textbook # –Location you would like to sit in room –Parents/Guardians Full Name –Parents/Guardians Phone Number –Activities you are or will be involved in –Grade you would like to receive in class

Homework Completion of homework is mandatory in order to practice concepts and earn the eligibility to reassess (the second chance for a better grade) Answers will be supplied in class, on Genesis or on the website. A grade of complete ( ) will placed in Genesis the day before a Unit assessment when all the Unit HW will be turned in to be checked for completion. Complete HW means all necessary work is shown on all assignments for the chapter being tested.

Weighting for Honors Classes Formative Assessments – 60% –These assessments, generally given every chapter, are directly correlated to individual standards. Standards are a specific topic in mathematics. Each Chapter Assessment consists of between four and six standards. – They are graded according to the “Grading to Standards” guidelines. –These can be reassessed provided the student followed all the guidelines for formative reassessment.

Grading to Standards ADVANCED - Extends targeted grade level standards represents the student exceeding grade level expectations set by the state. Scores as 100% PROFICIENT - Demonstrates proficiency of targeted grade level standards with evidence of application represents the student meeting the grade level expectations set by the state with evidence of application. Scores as 93% BASIC - Demonstrates proficiency of targeted grade level standard represents the student meeting the grade level expectations set by the state. Scores as 85%

NOT PROFICIENT - Insufficient performance of targeted grade level standards: indicates that the student's skill level is significantly below the grade level expectations set by the state. The student does not have the necessary skills and concept understanding to be successful in the next quarter or math course. Scores as 0% NOT PROFICIENT INELIGIBLE - Insufficient performance of targeted grade level standards: indicates the student earned a score of NOT PROFICIENT but the student did not complete the corresponding classwork or homework relevant to this standard and is therefore not permitted to reassess. Scores as 0% permanently Grading to Standards

Grading for Students Eligible to Attempt a Reassessment REASSESSED TO BASIC - Demonstrates proficiency of targeted grade level standard after reassessment: indicates the student has an elementary understanding after reworking and reassessing the skill. RTB1 - 1st Attempt: Scores as 77% This is the highest score possible on a reassessment. RTB2 - 2nd Attempt: Scores as a 70% RTB or more Attempts: Scores as a 50%

Reassessment Policy for Formative Assessments In order to qualify for a reassessment, students must have completed all of the assigned homework and classwork for all standards in the corresponding chapter before the chapter test occurs. NO Late HW! All reassessments must be completed BEFORE the formative assessment for the next unit is administered. Students may reassess on a maximum of 2 benchmarks each day: one during tutorial and one during math prep (Got Math?). Students may not skip their lunch or another class to reassess during a second math prep. Each reassessment must be completed at one sitting. For example, students may not start a reassessment during tutorial and finish it during student prep.

Why is HW and Reassessing so important? Lets Talk Averages….. Lets say you get one Advanced and one Not Proficient on your first Unit Assessment, what is your average (mean)? Now lets say you are eligible to reassess because you completed all your HW and completed your Practice sheet and you earn a Reassessed to Basic on your first attempt, what is your new average (mean)?

Summative Assessments – 30% –NOT Reassessable –Consists of Portfolios (Usually a Take Home Assignment) and In class tests –These assessments require students to synthesize skills from multiple standards. They are graded traditionally (numerically). Weighting for Honors Classes

All Other Class Assignments – 10% –NOT Reassessable –Consists of graded Classwork or Homework, warm- ups, exit slips, group activities etc… –Students will be notified if an assignment is being graded Weighting for Honors Classes

Extra Help: Tutorial –Room C220 –7:30-7:53 every day except Wed & every other Tues. (Qtr.1) Student Preps - Got Math? –Go right to the assigned classroom on time (Sign In & Don’t be Late) –Be prepared to ask questions! –See Schedule on Next Slide
