Who is a mentor? Who is a mentor?  A mentor is someone who has been there, done that, learned from the experience and is willing to share.  A mentor is someone who helps other people to reach their full potential  The emphasis is always on enabling and empowering the person to do things for themselves.

Different types of Mentors  Wise leader: executive - more formal  Life coach: professional mentor  Teacher: past or present  Peers: more informal  The confidante: a sounding board  Self- help: books, manuals, software  Inner mentor: that internal voice

Qualities of a Mentor  A good listener  Genuinely interested  Reliable  Responsible  Responsive  A guide  A trusted friend

Qualities of a GOOD mentor  Available – commits to spend the time  Patient – Respects differences between the two  Knowledgeable  Confidant – Reliable, self-assured and conscientious when interacting with mentee  A good listener – Speaks less, listens more, considers the needs of mentee  Inspiration – Sees the possibilities by bringing to life the qualities we aspire for ourselves.
