Plan Intense focus on conceptual understanding Make the 8 Mathematical Practices the foundation for every course Reteach and reassess as needed to ensure every student masters the content Move away from the skill and drill mentality Focus on making connections amongst the new KCAS standards rather than using as a checklist

Plan Community Partnerships to further growth and increase parent involvement See Blue Math Clinic Family Math Night Latino Night Focus Group Math ESS for Students with Disabilities

Implementation Summer of 2011 Entire summer was spent deconstructing standards and redesigning assessments and curriculum to address the new standards Strong message that “what was always taught” was no longer enough Since then At least ½ of P.D. hours are spent each summer evaluating and redesigning assessments and materials to address gaps Continuous discussion and deconstruction of every standard PLC groups continuously meeting to discuss standards

Monitoring Monthly Common Assessments MAP Data School-Wide Learning Checks PLCs meet weekly to review and analyze data

Adjustments Constant review of the Standards Implemented Monthly Common Assessments in 2014 to provide more data on learners Constant review of placement criteria and student placements to make sure everyone is in the class that will result in the most student growth Slowly moving toward a more Standards Based Approach to grading to even more closely monitor student learning

Keys to Success Re-teaching and Re-assessing learners to ensure mastery of content Buy-in and work of all teachers to adopt the new standards. The status quo just isn’t enough Focus on the 8 Mathematical Practices in every course
