Supporting Teachers In KS2 Science I believe that the support offered should reflect Hardenhuish’s status as a school with a Science Specialism. How to achieve this: Offer real enrichment and new opportunities to primary students Using How Science Works Provide Professional Development for Primary Teachers

Key Implementations Setting up a working group consisting of KS2/KS3 teachers Use of Science facilities at Hardenhuish for KS2 students Set up initiatives based on How Science Works; Projects on School Dinners; Local Habitats

“Changing Materials through Scientific Enquiry” Support Identify skills and resources needed for this topic, through partnership with primary schools Provide new opportunities – offer something different! Practical Resources - Science laboratories, equipment for KS2 students in their own classrooms (e.g. Data logging, water baths) ICT – use of , wikispaces, blogs, VLEs

Supporting “Changing Materials through Scientific Enquiry” Offer questions for Scientific Enquiry – Do all materials melt at 50 o C? How do different chocolate bars melt? Promote independent enquiry in relevant areas – cooking, melting ice using salt Provide materials to help students analyse and evaluate Working with KS3 students – peer guidance/assessment and exemplar work
