Experiencing PEPP Presenter: Aaron Kok Lam Wai Lecturer, Digital Media Design, CW(AMK)

Fruits of My PEPP&ER Attendance Significant improvement of an average of 11 % (from 76% - 87%). Punctuality Improve in students’ punctuality for lesson Attentiveness Less number of students playing games, net surfing & use of mobile phones during lesson. Quality of Work Able to produce better quality of work

Work Flow – Logo Creation Concept sketches

Work Flow – Logo Creation Constructing logo from scanned sketches.

Work Flow – Logo Creation Colour test of constructed logo.

Work Flow – Logo Creation Completed logo with stationery set.

PEPP – Why? Our students – Short span of attention Low self-esteem Needs lots of attention & encouragements Create interest in students at the beginning of the module. Adopting a student-centered approach in the lesson delivery to sustain their interest. Creating an itinerary for an exciting learning journey for the classes.

Introduction to PEPP A pedagogic model practiced in ITE. P LAN Breaking down lesson topics into discreet & manageable units. Divide students into small groups to form learning community. E XPLORE Different ways of learning. P RACTICE Lecturer discuss a concepts or skills & assign students activities to practice the skills taught. P ERFORM Achieving lesson objectives through assignments & critiques. Improve the learning outcome.

PEPP Journey - Plan Present the lesson objectives & explain the PEPP approach in the lesson delivery. Pair students up in groups of 2. Brief students on the K-W-L form and guide them to fill in the column. (What you Know about logo & trademarks?) ‘K’ K-W-L form

PEPP Journey - Plan K-W-L form

PEPP Journey - Plan

What do you KNOW about logos? Images & symbols goes into peoples’ mind easily than words. Give the company an identity & an image. Use to promote products.

PEPP Journey - Explore Ask students to fill in the column. (What they Want to know about the logo & trademarks?) Ask each team to sketch out 2 existing logos/trademarks that are already available on the market in the forms provided. Conduct lecture using the 10-2 strategy, where students are given 2 minutes to reflect on their learning & make clarifications after a 10-minute block of teaching. ‘W’ forms Want

PEPP Journey - Explore What do you want to know about logos? History of logo and trademarks How to create distinctive trademarks? What sort of colours can we use to create attractive logos & trademarks?

PEPP Journey - Practice

Students access eCourseware & complete a quiz to gauge their understanding of the topic. Students reflect on their learning outcomes and fill up the column of the K-W-L form. (What have they learned?) eCourseware PEPP Journey - Practice ‘L’

PEPP Journey - Practice What have you learned about logo? The different types of logos Logo is a distinctive symbol for a company or oragnisation. Colour selection for different application of logos.

PEPP Journey - Perform Hand out job sheet and brief students on the requirements and deliverables of the individual assignment. Individual student complete the assignments from initial concept sketches to finish artwork on computer. Individual students to make presentation of work.

Evaluate and assess individual students ’ work. Class to provide critiques to presenter on work done. Give comments on the students overall performance. Conclude the objectives and give a summary of the lesson. assess

PEPP Journey – Enquiry & Reflection

Lesson are planned properly & break into different stages for the easy understanding. Have more activities for future lessons. Engage students in more presentations. Ensure equal opportunities to learn for all students. Attend design seminars, to learn and share ideas from the professionals. Challenging quiz.

PEPP Journey – My Reflection A student-centered learning style is indeed a more effective approach in lesson delivery. Requires more facilitation in such lesson mode. An active and continual process, which requires more preparation and demands constant attention as lesson goes on.

PEPP Journey – My Reflection As a reflective practitioner, I will have to keep evaluating the strategies applied in my lesson delivery. Sharing it together with colleagues who are committed in students ’ achievement.
