GETTING STARTED Allan Coffman financed their first album, Too Fast for Love on their own, small, independent Lethur Records label. Signed to Elektra Records and released Shout at the Devil in 1983, which went platinum.

Band’s success was temporarily brought to a halt when Neil was involved in a deadly automobile accident. He was driving under the influence and was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Neil was incarcerated for 30 days in 1985, did community service and paid a large cash settlement.

By the time he was sentenced motley crue had released theater of pain, which soared up the charts and they had their first top 40 hit: Smokin’ in the Boy’s Room.

Bye-bye Tommy After numerous bitter encounters with Neil, Tommy Lee left the group in 1999 to form Methods of Mayhem. This same year the revamped Crue issued re- mastered editions of all their studio albums.

Causing Trouble The group had many issues with the law, controversy between members, etc. Former members sued for unpaid royalties. Ex-wives accused them of physical abuse Their career took a downfall in the 1990’s with a series of these mishaps and run-ins with the law.

Def Leppard

beginnings Formed in 1977 during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal Largely on the strength of their albums Pyromania and Hysteria, Def Leppard became one of the top-selling rock bands throughout the 1980’s, selling over 65 million albums worldwide, including 35 million in the United States alone!
