Obesity as a Priority # 1 resolution at Chapter Forum: “Comprehensive approach to obesity in children & adolescents” 2003 – Obesity was added as a child health priority to the AAP Strategic Plan 2003 – 2005 Task Force on Obesity

Obesity Activities Education Activities (eg NCE, Peds21, PediaLink online courses) Publications (eg Books, manuals, policy statements and flip charts) Research (eg Periodic Survey and PROS) Practice Management Resources (eg Coding Fact Sheet, Strategy for Claim Denials) Community/State Programs (eg HP 2010, CATCH, COSH CDC Grant) Partnership Activities (eg Federal Campaigns, Coalitions, and Consensus Statement)

Integration Phase ALF resolution 2007 requests AAP establish a “ home ” for obesity, passed and voted #1 in top 10 June 2007 Strategic Planning Meeting December 2007 Obesity Leadership Workgroup approved as vehicle to foster obesity integration

Obesity Leadership Workgroup (OLW) Purpose: to coordinate the obesity initiatives and activities in accordance with the AAP obesity strategic priorities. The OLW will: coordinate and support ongoing activities, continually assess current Academy obesity activities, identify areas for growth and engage Academy leadership, staff and membership in collaborative development and implementation of specific activities to address obesity priorities.

Chapters Strategic Obesity Activities Obesity Leadership Workgroup assess current activities identify needs coordinate and focus existing activities centralize & manage obesity requests set action plans and goals track progress towards goals Members Cmte,Sec & Council

Operations Obesity staff team meets quarterly (includes staff from over 30 cmte/sec and 4 different Departments) Obesity Executive Staff team meets monthly Created a pool of Obesity Experts Communicates regularly to Academy Leadership (eg this webinar)
