The Student Success Pilot Project Proposal From the beginning, the definition of student cohorts and student success was built into the proposal
Institutional Council’s initial work: Provide cohort estimates and baseline data. Develop a way to track student cohorts. Operationalize the outcome measures. Explore ways to find eligible students at the beginning of each term.
Identifying the Student Success Student Cohort First-time college student Degree or transfer intent Full time student Enrolled in 12 or more credit hours. Placement information developmental education (math, reading and/or English) or missing.
Tracking student cohorts Student Groups: The following student groups have been setup in SIS for the SSPP: Student Success Pilot FALL2008 (S608) Student Success Pilot SPR2009 (S209) Student Success Pilot FALL2009 (S609) Student Success Pilot SPR2010 (S210)
Measures of Success/Evaluation “The group recognizes the importance of evaluating the pilot’s effectiveness. Data will be collected measuring the cohort’s performance in four areas: Completion of the semester with a grade C or better (measured as a percentage of total courses completed). Persistence from semester to semester at any MCCCD college. Successful completion of college-level courses after completion of the developmental sequence. Persistence to goal (degree/transfer).”
