Student Success Pilot Project Overview Student Success Pilot Project ITS Workgroup March 8, 2010

The Student Success Pilot Project Proposal From the beginning, the definition of student cohorts and student success was built into the proposal

Institutional Council’s initial work: Provide cohort estimates and baseline data. Develop a way to track student cohorts. Operationalize the outcome measures. Explore ways to find eligible students at the beginning of each term.

Identifying the Student Success Student Cohort First-time college student Degree or transfer intent Full time student  Enrolled in 12 or more credit hours. Placement information  developmental education (math, reading and/or English) or missing.

Tracking student cohorts Student Groups: The following student groups have been setup in SIS for the SSPP: Student Success Pilot FALL2008 (S608) Student Success Pilot SPR2009 (S209) Student Success Pilot FALL2009 (S609) Student Success Pilot SPR2010 (S210)

Measures of Success/Evaluation “The group recognizes the importance of evaluating the pilot’s effectiveness. Data will be collected measuring the cohort’s performance in four areas: Completion of the semester with a grade C or better (measured as a percentage of total courses completed). Persistence from semester to semester at any MCCCD college. Successful completion of college-level courses after completion of the developmental sequence. Persistence to goal (degree/transfer).”
