What is Homegrown Minneapolis? A city-wide initiative to develop recommendations and implement strategies to improve the growth, sales, distribution, and consumption of healthy, locally grown foods.

Homegrown Minneapolis Goals Collaborative Planning (Phase 1): Community-driven process to develop recommendations for City actions to improve the local food system Implementation (Phase 2): Work with City staff and community partners to implement key recommendations

Farmers Market Subcommittee Gardens Subcommittee SEUA Subcommittee Commercial Use Subcommittee Steering Committee City Council Task Force workgroup Jan – April 2009: Community members make recommendations to the Steering Committee June 2009: Steering Committee submits recommendations to City Council June – Sept 2009: Council Resolution forms Implementation Task Force; ITF develops workplan Sept 2009 – July 2011: Task Force and workgroups implement priority recommendations within City’s purview

Minneapolis Farmers Market Advisory group to work with City staff and market manager to develop long-term goals and ensure that market embodies Homegrown values EBT implemented during 2010 market season Farmers market managers discussing improved coordination

What’s Next for Homegrown Minneapolis? Urban Agriculture Policy Plan: Create framework for land use and development around urban food production, processing, distribution and urban design Local Food Sustainability Indicator: Develop targets to measure progress on local food improvements Institutional Food License: Provide input re: new license category to provide options for the use of community and shared commercial kitchens Food Policy Advisory Entity: Create long-term advisory group to guide the City on local food issues and engage community members

Public Safety and Health Committee Action Implementation Task Force will continue to report back to the Public Safety and Health Committee on implementation efforts
