Dare to Discover Cornerstones & Aspirations

Talented People ATTRACT outstanding students from Alberta, Canada, and the world. CREATE a dynamic, discovery-based learning environment by aiming for a mix of undergraduate and graduate students typical of leading public research universities. ATTRACT post-doctoral fellows, researchers, and visiting faculty from around the world to join the academic community already in place. IMPROVE access for rural, Aboriginal, and non-traditional students through partnerships with colleges and by linkages with high schools across the province and improve affordability by enhancing bursaries and scholarships. RECRUIT and retain outstanding and diverse academic staff through endowed professorships, competitive start-up funding, attractive career support, and by providing a vibrant intellectual climate that celebrates and rewards achievement. RECRUIT and retain the best staff by fostering a culture of excellence within a healthy and safe workplace, providing progressive career opportunities, and rewarding leadership and outstanding accomplishments. Transformative Organization and Support DEVELOP an endowment comparable to the best public research universities in the world. SECURE resources to provide the best education for our students, to support world-class research and creative activity and its dissemination and translation, and to foster citizenship. PROVIDE needs-based and merit-based financial assistance to increase affordability for all students and offer competitive fellowships to attract outstanding graduate students. BUILD, enhance, and maintain classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and museums, as well as athletic, social, and residential facilities to provide a transformative university experience. CONTINUE to set priorities and invest in world-class teaching and research infrastructure. ESTABLISH high standards of service based on best practices to achieve and maintain good stewardship of financial resources and capital assets. PROMOTE administrative effectiveness and good governance by improving communication among units, enhancing collaboration, implementing transformative ideas, and revising organizational structures.

Alignment and Focus – between Dare to Deliver II and Dare to Discover 1.Improve the quality and diversity of the undergraduate populations – best students from Alberta, major Canadian cities and the world and ensure exceptional student engagement and an outstanding student experience. 2.Attract outstanding graduate students and post-doctoral fellows from top universities in Canada and around the world and ensure an exceptional graduate experience and excellent professional development. 3.Attract more financial support from alumni, donors, the private and other non-profit organizations.

Alignment and Focus – between Dare to Deliver II and Dare to Discover 4.Attract more financial support for operations and research from the Government of Alberta and Canada. And research funding agencies – Tri-Council, and other national international research funding agencies. 5.Attract top quality faculty and excellent staff from around the world and ensure they have a satisfying career experience. 6.Establish University of Alberta in the minds of key influencers as a leader and partner in solving national and global problems. 7.What do we de-invest?
