 geographically widespread—EurasiaEurasia  most widely spoken --Slavic language  the largest native language -- Europe,native languageEurope  144 million native speakers—Russia– Ukraine--Belarus.Russia– UkraineBelarus

 One hundred and twenty languages in Russia are in jeopardy(15 tongues extinct) Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger (by UNESCO) o the Aleut o the Sami o the Itelmen o the Nivkh o The Chukchi Observers fear that these languages may soon be assimilated in Russian and Tatar.

 Minority languages in Russia have lost their importance … (in everyday communication --between community members)  50 minority languages in Russia are moribund(Siberia, the Russian Far East, in North European Russia and in the Caucasus) All minority languages in Russia run the risk of disappearing… …both those that…  have tens of thousands of speakers  and those spoken only by a few thousand or a few dozen people The most serious threat to these languages is that they fail to be passed down naturally from parents to children

FACT Language is an important part of any society. Future generations may lose a vital part of the culture that is necessary to completely understand it. PROBLEM Oral traditions and other inherited knowledge are no longer transmitted among native speakers Encourage younger generations to speak the language as they grow, so they will then teach their children the language as well. The internet can be used to raise awareness about the issues of language extinction and language preservation. SOLUTIONS

 Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.  The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.  Music is the shorthand of emotion.  All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Leo Tolstoy

 People don’t notice whether it is summer or winter when they are happy  Faith is an aptitude of the spirit. It is, in fact, a talent: you must be born with it.  Medicine is my lawful wife and literature my mistress; when I get tired of one, I spend the night with the other. Anton Chekhov

 The cleverest of all, in my opinion, is the man who calls himself a fool at least once a month.  Power is given only to those who dare to lower themselves and pick it up. Only one thing matters, one thing; to be able to dare! Fyodor Dostoevsky
