What makes me unique?

Neil Stevens Consulting Ltd Invest in Innovation

What makes me unique?

All true, but….

What makes me unique? I am a partner, father, son, stepson, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, nephew, healthcare professional, informatician, programme manager, company director, business partner…

What makes me unique? …so I have real-life stories to tell… …but so do all of you!

I am uniquely placed to comment on the benefits of interoperability and integration of Health and Social Care IT and Information Systems What makes me unique?

I am uniquely placed to comment on the benefits of interoperability and integration of Health and Social Care IT and Information Systems… Just like all of you!

Potential barriers Information Governance Integrating systems vs redesigning information flows Information = power Ownership issues Hearts and minds WIIFM?

Potential barriers Which NHS/Social Care organisation is incentivised to integrate information? Technical challenges Perpetual re- organisation

Potential barriers Competing priorities Lack of energy Lack of vision Too busy with WL initiatives It is the responsibility of the ‘IT Department’ “Just tell us when you have done it!”

But we are privileged, and I believe we have a duty We can truly make a difference in the NHS We can see some of what needs to be done We have skills and experience to make some of it happen Integrated care needs integrated information

An example “Our vision is to be a national beacon for all that is best in the NHS delivering 21st Century Healthcare. We will be part of a flourishing network of health and social care partners to integrate care for our patients, deliver clinically excellent results and be financially sustainable. In addition we will: Deliver quality in everything we do; safety, effectiveness and patient experience. Transform services to maximise productivity and efficiency. Create networks for acute and complex care. Develop integrated care for people with long-term conditions to help them to stay as healthy as they can be.”

How do we do that then? Dare to imagine 10 years from now…

How do we do that then? Dare to imagine 10 years from now…

How do we do that then? Care to guess what technology will be offering us in 2024?

How do we do that then? Identify those solutions that can add value… Neil Stevens Consulting Ltd Invest in Innovation

How do we do that then? Challenge the status quo…

How do we do that then? We should experiment…

How do we do that then? We should experiment…

How do we do that then? We should experiment…

How do we do that then? We should experiment…

How do we do that then? Above all we should hold on to the thought that if we want to get the same results, we should do what we have always done. If we want a different outcome we should try different things.

We need an integrated NHS. Patients need integrated information. My dad needs both. This is my challenge to all of you.

Thank You Neil Stevens
