Beatrix Potter Beyond Rachel Carson by Lillian Jones Beyond Rachel Carson by Lillian Jones Helen Beatrix Potter Beatrix Potter was her pen name.

Beatrix Potter was born July 28, 1866, in Kensington, London, England, An only daughter to her father, Rupert Potter. She had brother named Bertram. She painted, using specimens in the Natural History museum as models as well. Beatrix and her brother would go in the woods and by the lake at the Lake District where Potter learned about the different species of animals and got familiar with nature. Also, at home she kept pets of all kinds so that she could paint them and learn about the nature of creatures (though of course they didn’t talk or wear clothes Beatrix was tutored by a Governess instead of going to school. She claims that it’s a good thing that she wasn’t well educated or else she may have not turned out to be the naturalist she was. Potter mainly educated herself by studying and interacting with the world around her through art, writing, and play. Beatrix was tutored by a Governess instead of going to school. She claims that it’s a good thing that she wasn’t well educated or else she may have not turned out to be the naturalist she was. Potter mainly educated herself by studying and interacting with the world around her through art, writing, and play. Beatrix had a journal that she kept in her own made up secret code.

Her Focus Potter’s main focus was on the little creatures around her. She wrote stories involving her little woodland discoveries. In a lot of her stories, you will find rabbits, mice, and cats or kittens. She had these as pets as well as story characters. Potter’s main focus was on the little creatures around her. Her Adult Life Beatrix Potter spent most of her adult life where she lived as a child: The Lake District. With the money she was earning from writing Peter Rabbit, she bought Hill Top Farm as her property. Beatrix Potter spent most of her adult life where she lived as a child: The Lake District. The Lake District Potter learned about the natural world at the Lake District. The family would go there for vacations and it was one of Potter’s favorite places. She and her brother would play and interact with the natural world around them, and Beatrix would later express it in her tales and paintings.

QuotesQuotes “Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were--Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.” -From The Tale of Peter Rabbit “Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality.” “Most people, after one success, are so cringingly afraid of doing less well that they rub all the edge off their subsequent work.” “Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were--Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.” -From The Tale of Peter Rabbit “Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality.” “Most people, after one success, are so cringingly afraid of doing less well that they rub all the edge off their subsequent work.”

Main Accomplishment When Beatrix Potter was 27, she wrote The Tale of Peter Rabbit, a picture-letter, to a little boy she knew who had been sick for a very long time. In 1901, she had 250 copies printed by Christmas, and they all sold out quickly, which meant she had to print 200 more two weeks later. I Learned... I learned that, in order to fulfill your dreams, you not only must work hard, but you have to be imaginative and quench your needs of creativity. I learned that you learn more from the world around you than from any school, not necessarily how to read, write, or use good grammar, but about the things that they leave off in schools or only skim the subjects surface. And, most of all, I learned that I had a Beatrix Potter book in my home and didn’t even realize who I had picked until I researched her. ;)

Learning Style Along the way, there were hints about Beatrix Potter that lead me to the conclusion that her learning style was part kinesthetic and part visual. I think this because she painted and worked with animals with her hands and also she saw the nature around her and learned from the beautiful sights. I learn this way also. I need to do the activities in order to learn, but sometimes I just need to see the things around me. I also like to write stories and create art, while I also love to be outside with nature.

The End Thanks for Watching
