Personification Giving human-like traits to non- human things. Examples: Opportunity is knocking at the door. The Harry Potter books were flying off the shelves!
Hyperbole An exaggeration! It could be so ridiculous that it must be false. Examples: I have a ton of homework. It’s so fluffy! I’m going to die!! I am so hungry. I could eat a horse.

Share with your group and explain what you believe the artist is trying to communicate through their figurative language. Also, share your reasoning for picking this song. (3 mins)
Figurative Language is Everywhere! We can find figurative language in songs and movies! Today we are going to listen and watch several songs. Each one will have a different type of figurative language in it. Please make a chart. It should have three columns. 1-What type of figurative language is being used? 2-What is the example of figurative language? 3-What is the author trying to communicate through this piece of figurative language? *Note: Some songs have multiple examples of figurative language! Nature and Me (For Richard Chase P. 28) (2 mins) We are going to reread the poem from yesterday that describes the man as a mountain. Please write down all the figurative language you see as you read. Why is this figurative language necessary to the poem? How does it help you understand what the poet is trying to communicate?
Now take that one thing and compare yourself to it using figurative language (3 minutes) Example: I am peaceful, like a gently, flowing creek, passing through the green forest, as the birds sing sweetly their song of content.
Group Time! (12 minutes) Now, you will make a two to three stanza poem, each stanza should be five lines, with your group using the comparisons you made. Add to your poem at least two senses.
