DR. JOSEPH WARREN By: Yobi

 Dr. Joseph Warren was born on June 11, 1741 in Roxbury, Massachusetts to his parents Joseph Warren and Marry Stephens-Warren.

 At the age of 18, Warren graduated from Harvard University, studying medicine.  After graduating, he taught in a school in Roxbury for two years.  After teaching, he began his medical practice in Boston.

 In 1764, Warren married Elizabeth Hooten.  They had three children, Mary, Joseph, and Elizabeth Warren. Warren’s statue at Roxbury Latin School

 During the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act, Dr. Warren published articles in The Boston Gazette under the signature, “A True Patriot”.  In June 1775, Warren was chosen second major- general, after Artemis Ward, but served as a volunteer in the Battle of Bunker Hill.

 Dr. Warren died in the Battle of Bunker Hill. He was struck in the head with a musket ball and instantly died.  His remains are buried in Forest Hills cemetery in Boston. Warren’s grave in Forest Hills cemetery

 His best speeches were delivered in Old South Church on the second and fifth anniversaries of the “Boston Massacre”.  Warren was one of the most influential leaders of the extreme Whig section in Massachusetts. The Death of General Warren at the Battle of Bunker Hill by John Trumbull
