A Sacrificial Journey Worth Taking

“Lent: A Sacrificial Journey Worth Taking” Overview March 13: "Our Sacrifice of Praise" – Pastor Scott March 20: "Our Sacrifice of Comfort" - Pastor Scott March 27: "Our Sacrifice of Time" - Pastor Scott April 3: "Our Sacrifice of Talent" - Pastor Scott April 10: "Our Sacrifice of Treasure" - Pastor Paul

Review: What is Lent? Three traditional practices of Lent are: 1.prayer (justice towards God) 2.fasting (justice towards self) 3.giving to the poor (justice towards neighbor) Some believers choose to give up a vice, add something to their life that will bring them closer to God, and often give the time or money spent on vices to church or other charitable purposes.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Agree or Disagree: “Time is money”

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Why is time more valuable than money? “Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back.” Pastor Rick Warren, pg 127 of Purpose Driven Life

“Our Sacrifice of Time” What would you give for more time?

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Gee Lord, if only I had a little more time… “Jersey Shore” comes on tonight.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Character Study: King Hezekiah “Hezekiah trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was never another king like him in the land of Judah, either before or after his time. So the LORD was with him, and Hezekiah was successful in everything he did.” - 2 Kings 18:5, 7a All Scripture references in the New International Version unless otherwise noted

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Character Study: King Hezekiah “About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: ‘This is what the LORD says: Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.’” - 2 Kings 20:1

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Character Study: King Hezekiah “When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,” 2 Kings 20:2

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Character Study: King Hezekiah "Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, `This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the LORD. I will add 15 years to your life.’” - 2 Kings 20:5-6a

“Our Sacrifice of Time” How would you feel if you were Hezekiah? How would you invest that precious gift of time?

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Psalm 90:12 “ Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Ephesians 5:16 (NKJV) “ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Most of us have no idea how long we will live. Why not make the most of every day by investing the time we have on earth in things that reap eternal dividends?

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time For Lent, take a moment to reflect on the many ways that we waste time in things that have no eternal significance.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Pick a way to reinvest that time in a way the honors God and blesses others.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Suggestions: Arrive at church early and take a moment to get to know a brother or sister in Christ better.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Suggestions: Participate in a small group Bible study or Sunday School class.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Suggestions: Pick a night(s) of the week as “t.v. free” and reinvest that time in reading with your child or helping them with their homework.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Redeeming the Time Suggestions: Serve in a church ministry or charitable organization.

“Our Sacrifice of Time” Closing Prayer “ Lord, help us number our days aright and walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, that more people might be blessed and come to know You.”

Thank you for your participation! See you next Sunday!
