Curriculum Highlights Basics of Flight – Your children will learn the fundamentals of flight, how factors such as lift, drag, thrust and weight affect flight, as well as a brief history of flight from one of the museums pilots. Kids will put their new found knowledge to the test by building and flying their own gliders, then further their knowledge by building a model airplane. Kids will also learn the basics of rocketry, learning how rocket motors work, then again put their knowledge to work by building and launching their very own model rockets. Kids will attend ground crew training, learning all of the important safety measures and hand signals required to handle aircraft on the ground. Kids will go on 2 field trips, one to the Virginia Air & Space Center, and one to The Fighter Factory, one of the premier vintage aircraft restoration facilities in the world! Children will spend the week amongst the largest collection of operational vintage and reproduction aircraft in the world! The final day will be marked with demonstration flights of several of the museums restored aircraft, a picnic, with games and prizes.
