STAGE MANAGER’S PANEL (SMP) LIGHTING Work lights House lights Stage lights

SMP Lighting The Stage Manager’s Panel (SMP) is designed to allow simple control of most basic lighting functions in the PAC. This includes Stage work lights (lighting for working while setting up and striking an event). House lights (audience lighting) Safety lights (aisles and stairs) Stage lights (very general light for simple events)

Uses and Limitations This system is ideally suited for the following types of simple lights-up/lights-down events: Lectures Forums Films If your event requires A variety of different stage lighting looks Frequent or subtle lighting changes You are better off getting trained personnel to set up and operate the main lighting system. Note: from the SMP, with the main curtain closed the operator cannot see the stage and cannot hear very well making cueing difficult

FIRE CODE DICTATES THAT THE AISLE AND STEP LIGHTS IN THE AUDIENCE AREAS BE LIT AT ALL TIMES WHEN AN AUDIENCE IS PRESENT. STAGE LIGHTING EQUIPMENT GETS VERY HOT! IT IS CRITICAL THAT ALL NON-FLOURECENT LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF WHEN LEAVING THE THEATRE CAUTION

Useful Terms: Front-of-house (FOH): All areas in front of the stage, including audience, lobby, etc. Fader: Sliding knobs Stage Electric: The pipes overhead over the stage where the stage lighting equipment hangs

THIS MANUAL COVERS TWO TYPES OF LIGHTING Dimmable lighting – these are the most desirable lights for presentations because they allow variable intensities. Non-dimmable lighting – these are more energy- efficient and are useful for work light while setting up or striking an event.
