The cinema Moravia

 The cinema was built in  It was built in the late Art Nouveau style.  The cinema is situated in Smrtelná Street.  The cinema closed in March  The cinema was designed by an architect Josef Herzán.  Nowadays the local authorities are trying to sell the cinema building.

 The cinema Moravia was the first cinema in Třebíč with a big, permanent auditorium.  It was very modern for its time.  It was a multipurpose building.  In addition to film projections there were also theatre performances, concerts and other cultural events.  In 1938 Klement Gottwald gave an antifascist speech there.

The names of the cinema through its history  At its foundation the cinema was named MORAVIA.  After 1948 it was called the cinema SVĚT (WORLD).  After changes to its interior in 1958 it was renamed the cinema SPUTNIK.  In 1992 it returned to the name cinema MORAVIA which was used until its closing in 2006.
