Historical Description TPEP originated during the 2010 legislative session. Changed from a two-tiered system of satisfactory or unsatisfactory to a four-tier rating system Created eight new criteria for teachers and principals to be evaluated upon 22 components and 3 student growth measures for teachers 25 components and 3 student growth measures for principals Common themes tying the criteria for teachers and principals together Yearly revisions to the process by the legislature have made implementation challenging 3

Core principles of TPEP Quality teaching and leading is critically important Professional learning is a key component of an effective evaluation system Teaching and leading is work done by a core team of professionals Teacher and principal evaluation models should co-exist within the complex relationship between district systems and negotiations 4
