The Giver Steps for Theme and Plot Analysis

Directions  You will be required to respond to 7 question prompts that deal with analyzing Plot, conflict, character development and theme. You should number each item. It is very important that you respond to the entire question prompt for each number. You cannot get full credit unless every item is addressed. If the question requires you to give information from the story to support your answer, make sure you give information from the story.

Directions continued You are permitted to use notes provided in the beginning of the year to help you with terminology used in the questions. You may also use any resource to help you define terms. For example, if you are not sure what a dynamic character is, it is ok to look it up. It is strongly recommended that you gather your thoughts and complete a sloppy copy. You are required to type the final paper.

Directions continued Your name should be placed on all pages Your font size should be 12. All pages should be stapled together in the upper left hand corner. You will be given four class periods to work on this assignment. Use your resources.

Typed Copy Set Up Name: Period: 1. Exposition: Type all the necessary information needed to answer this question under number one. 2. Characterization: Type all the necessary information needed to answer this question under number two. 3. Continue with this format throughout the process.

My Recommendation Today: Gather your thoughts and make sure you have a good understanding of what is needed. Read over the rubric so you understand how you will be graded. Tuesday: Continue to gather information and begin to create a Sloppy copy of the information. Wednesday: Finish the sloppy copy. Read over the information and make sure all question prompts are answered completely with evidence provided from the book. Begin typing the paper. Thursday: Finish typing the paper and submit it. If you need more time you will have to complete it for homework.

Dues Date: After Thanksgiving Rubric: A scoring rubric is located on the back of the sheet with the seven questions. It explains everything that is needed in order to score a perfect paper. Good luck. Make sure you answer every question and provide evidence from the story.
