Passion Week Sunday Sunday: Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem Mt 21:1-11; Mk 11:1-11; Lk 19:28-44; Jn 12:12-19 “Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9

Passion Week Sunday “On the first day of the week Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey fulfilling an ancient prophecy (Zec 9:9). The crowd welcomed him with “Hosanna” and the words of Ps118:25-26, thus ascribing to him a Messianic title as the agent of the Lord, the coming King of Israel”

Passion Week Monday Monday: Clearing the Temple Mt 21: 10-17; Mk 11:15-18; Lk 19: “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.” Matt 21:13

Passion Week Monday “The next day he returned to the temple and found the court of the Gentiles full of traders and money changers making a large profit as they gave out Jewish coins on exchange for “pagan” money. Jesus drove them out and overturned their tables”

Passion Week Tuesday Tuesday: Day of Controversy & Parables Mt 21: 23 – 24:51; Mk 11:27 – 13:37; Lk 20: 1 – 21:36 One by one the religious leaders tried to discredit Jesus & reveal some fatal flaws in him.

Passion Week Tuesday In Jerusalem: “Jesus evaded the traps of the priests” On the Mount of Olives Overlooking Jerusalem “He taught in parables and warned people against the Pharisees. He predicted the destruction of Herod’s great temple and told his disciples about future events, including his own return”

Passion Week Wednesday Wednesday: Day of Rest The bible does not mention this day

Passion Week Thursday Thursday: Passover - Last Supper Mt 26:17 – 30; Mk 14:12-26 Lk 22: 7 – 23; Jn 13:1-30 Kingdom people…… “lead from their knees” “lead with a servant’s heart” “Imitate their King” Are we imitators of the King?

Exchange at the Cross Jesus was punished…… Jesus was wounded …… Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness…… Jesus died our death …… Jesus endured our poverty. Jesus bore our shame …… Jesus endured our rejection …………………… Jesus was made a curse …… that we might be forgiven that we might be healed that we might be made righteous with His righteousness that we might receive His life that we might share His abundance that we might share His glory that we might have His acceptance with the Father that we might enter into the blessing

Passion Week Thursday Passover Last Supper In the upper room Jesus prepared both himself and his disciples for his death. He gave the Passover meal a new meaning. The loaf of bread and cup of wine represented his body soon to be sacrificed and his blood soon to be shared. And so he instituted the “Lord’s Supper”. After singing a hymn they went to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed in agony, knowing what lay ahead for him.”

Passion Week Friday Friday: Crucifixion Mt 27:1 – 66; Mk 15:1-47 Lk 22: 66 – 23:56; Jn 18:28 – 19:37 Passover commemorated the historic deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery through the death of a lamb & application of its blood to a door post. God’s Passover lamb came to bring victory over the enemy, free us from our slavery and the presence of God in our midst.

Passion Week Friday Crucifixion Following betrayal, arrest, desertion, false trials, denial, condemnation, beatings and mockery, Jesus was required to carry his cross to “The Place of the Skull”, where he was crucified with two other prisoners. In the Tomb Jesus’ body was placed in the tomb before 6pm when the Sabbath began & all work stopped, and it lay in the tomb throughout the Sabbath.”

Passion Week Saturday In the Tomb The forces of evil celebrated while Jesus’ followers held their heads in dismay “we thought he was the Christ …. we thought he was the one who was going to redeem Israel” Luke 24:21

Passion Week Sunday Then Sunday came and everything changed.
