Comparisons of inequality With adjectives, adverbs, nouns and verbs, these constructions are used to make comparisons of inequality More than Less than

Adjectives, adverbs, nouns Más / menos + Adjective, adverb, noun + que

Adjetivo Este hotel es más elegante que el otro. This hotel is more elegant than the other.

Adverbio Pedro llegó más tarde que yo. Pedro arrived later than I did.

Sustantivo (noun) Éric tiene más maletas que Fabiola. Erica has more suitcases than Fabiola.

Verbo Verbo + más/menos que

Verbo Mi hermano viaja menos que yo. My brother travels less than I do.

Before a number (or equivalent), more/less than is expressed with más / menos de Un pasaje de ida y vuelta cuesta más de quinientos dólares ($500). A roundtrip ticket costs more than $500.

Before a number, more/less than is expressed with más / menos de Mi vuelo sale en menos de una hora. My flight leaves in less than an hour.

SUPERLATIVOS This constructions is used to form superlatives (superlativos). The noun is preceded by a definite article (el, la, los, las), and DE is the equivalent of IN or OF>.

Ejemplos de SUPERLATIVOS Ésta es la playa más bonita de todas. This is the prettiest beach of them all.

Ejemplos de SUPERLATIVOS Es el hotel más barato (inexpensive) de México. It is the cheapest hotel in Mexico.

SUPERLATIVOS, cont. The noun can be omitted . El Hotel Hilton es el más elegante de Cancún. The Hilton Hotel is the most elegant in Cancún.

Comparisons of equality with a noun Tanto/a/os/as + singular or plural noun + como Tengo tantas maletas como tú. I have as many suitcases as you.

Comparisons of equality with an adjective/adverb Tan + adjective/adverb + como Nuestro hotel es tan lujoso como el tuyo. Our hotel is a luxurious as your’s. Tú corres tan rápidamente como Julián. You run as fast as Julián.

Comparisons of equality with a verb Verb + tanto como Viajo tanto como Anita. I travel as often as Anita. Tú nadaste tanto como yo en Cancún. You swam as much as I did in Cancún.
