PARTNERS

PURPOSE The Child Wellness Intervention Project (CWIP) promotes health and wellness in Arkansas public schools. This program has two goals. Goal 1: to support and promote health education and quality physical education Goal 2: to implement this project in each of the educational cooperatives

Increase the physical education time to a minimum of 120 minutes per week Implement SPARK physical education curriculum and conduct fitness assessment using Fitnessgram by trained, licensed physical education teachers in the following grade categories: K-2, 3-6, or middle school HealthTeacher.com implemented into elementary grades a minimum of 2 lessons a week or Middle school implementation of HealthTeacher.com in health classes with emphasis on tobacco education taught at the appropriate grade level SCHOOLS MUST COMMIT TO THE FOLLOWING FOR GRANT FUNDING

Physical education teachers attending training must commit to implementing the program for a minimum of one year at the designated school Community training consisting of superintendent, principal, physical education teacher, and three community members Complete all components of the CWIP project evaluation SCHOOLS MUST COMMIT TO THE FOLLOWING FOR GRANT FUNDING

AWARDED SCHOOLS RECEIVE SPARKS curriculum and required equipment Locking storage cabinet for all equipment Fitnessgram software for grades 3-6 and middle schools HealthTeacher.com curriculum Teacher trainings on SPARKS, Fitnessgram, and HealthTeacher.com PE4Life training for school and community Travel expenses to attend the required trainings $ stipend for up to 2 teachers per school that attended the trainings

CWIP Application For the school year, the Arkansas Child Wellness Intervention Project applications will be available this fall (2010) on the Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Commission’s website.
