Tropical Rainforests in Sumatra By Fergus Callander 5/6P 2014

Introduction Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia. It is the home to many rainforests, animals and plants. 60% of Indonesia is tropical rainforest, in the 1960s it was 80% of Indonesia.

Climate/Weather In Sumatra, the mean average temperature is 26.2 degrees celsius (79.1 degrees fahrenheit). There is constant year-round rainfall so it has no wet and dry season and a very tropical wet climate.

Terrain Mostly coastal lowlands. Some interior mountains on some islands. Indonesia is close to the Equator so most of Indonesia is tropical. Being close to the Equator Indonesia only has 2 seasons, wet and dry.

Animal - Sumatran Tiger There are only Sumatran Tigers in the world. It comes from the Animalia Kingdom, the Chordata phylum, the Mammalia class, the Carnivora order, the Felidae family and the Panthera genus.

Plant - Hasselt’s Panua The Hasselt’s panua is a species of tree in the Sumatran rainforests. It’s scientific name is Dipterocarpus Hasseltii. It comes from the Plantae kingdom, the Tracheophyta phylum, the Magnoliopsida class, the Theales order and the Dipterocarpaceae genus.

Natural Disasters & Effects At 6:30pm on the 30th of May 2014 a volcano erupted in Indonesia. The Singabung volcano sent ash plumes south and Darwin flights were cancelled.

Conclusion/Thanks for watching That is what the tropical rainforests are all about. Thanks for watching!
