Teresa Teng Teresa Teng (January 29, 1953 – May 8, 1995), was an immensely popular and influential Chinese pop singer from Taiwan. Teng's voice and songs are instantly recognized throughout East Asia and in areas with large Asian populations. It is often said, "Wherever there are Chinese people, the songs of Teresa Teng can be heard." Her songs enjoy popularity among Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Khmer, Malaysian, and Indonesian listeners as well. Teng was known for her folk songs and romantic ballads. Many became standards in her lifetime, such as "When Will You Return?" and "The Moon Represents My Heart".She recorded songs not only in her native Mandarin but also in Taiwanese, Cantonese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and English. Teng, a lifelong sufferer from asthma, died in 1995 from a severe respiratory attack while on holiday in Thailand. She was 42. Continue

Shanghai Tango Continue Shanghai Tango is an overview of Jin Xing’s artistic work over the last 25 years and presents a mix of East and West in dance as well as in the choice of music and costumes. Like the tango Jin Xing’s choreography has grace, subtlety and visual appeal. The production embraces 10 choreographic works including Halfdream for which Jin Xing was awarded as best choreographer at the American Dance Festival 1991 and Black and Red winner of the 1998 China Cultural Ministry Award for Modern Art. The title piece is inspired by a Chinese folk tale about a mother divided between her husband, her son and her lover. The dance is not actually tango although with Astor Piazzolla’s music it is tango-influenced. Shanghai Tango offers a glimpse of contemporary Shanghai, a mix of passions and cultures between the past and the future. East and West blend in the final scene when the girls in ample costumes with long, full skirts spin to the accompaniment of a Strauss waltz while the boys in white uniforms similar to those of the red guards move around the stage on bicycles. Jin Xing’s sensuous dance style and her inspired choreography enchanted the audience in her home country as well as in numerous countries in America, Europe and Asia.
