Legislation Structure   Integrated Pest Management Act (IPMA) came into force Dec 31/2004   IPMA Regulations came into force Dec 31/ two major parts   Ministers Regulations   Administrators Regulations

Licence Requirements   Terms up to 5 years   May combine vendor and user categories   Must employ a certificate in the appropriate category for the licence   May hire contractor to do works other than the category(ies) on the licence

Who Needs a User Licence?   Non-service uses on public land   Structural / Landscape pests   Bti for mosquito Larvae: <1ha per year   Non-service uses on private land   Multi-residence buildings with 4 or more units   Phase in January 2007

Licencing for Pesticide Use   Certified applicators   Notification   Integrated Pest Management Requirements   Human health and environmental standards   Record keeping

Use of IPM by a Licensee   Advise and/or implement methods for pest prevention   Identify pests/complexes to be managed   Monitor to determine pests and their location(s)   Determine injury thresholds for each pest to be treated.

When is a Permit Required   Permit-Restricted Class pesticides   Aerial application over urban areas   Pesticide application to public land or a body of water except where a licence or PMP is required

Who is Required to Prepare a Pest Management Plan?  Vegetation and pest management on public land used for forestry (treatment area >20ha).  Mosquito management (except for small scale uses where only Bti is used)  Invasive plant management on public land > 50ha  Vegetation management and wood preservation on railways  Vegetation management on road, pipeline, or transmission rights-of-way  Vegetation management on industrial sites >20ha on public land  Wood pole preservation on public utility rights-of-way.
