WELCOME TO… THE EXCITING WORLD OF… INTERVIEWING! By: A and D :) Are you ready for this?

CONDUCTING AN INTERVIEW

TIPS FROM KATHY DALY Be prepared: what do you already know? Have questions ready, but remain flexible Conduct all interviews IN PERSON Ask the right questions: NOT “yes” or “no” answers Be aware of your role Observe Wrap it up professionally Post Interview Reflection

Live Interview DO: Create plans to meet Be friendly Be in a comfortable environment DON’T: Get too personal Intimidate them Go off topic

Things to have handy during an interview Notebook/Notepad Paper Pen/Pencil/Writing Utensil Tape Recorder Video Camera Phone Planner Camera Computer

DON’T… Rely on just one tactic to get an interview Rely on just one person to get all your information for your story Misquote them. ESPECIALLY school administrators/staff Spell/misprint the person’s name wrong Forget that when you interview someone, you’re representing YOUR yearbook staff and your adviser

USE WHAT YOU LEARNED.. ACTIVITY TIME!

For every picture that you see, come up with questions you would ask the person in the picture. Also find an angle for a spread. :)
