Population Pyramids TEKS: WG7A Objective: Students will compare and contrast the population pyramids and answer the questions. Assign students to small groups of 3 or 4. Give each group a copy of each population pyramid and and a copy of the questions. Students will complete the questions. Discuss how literacy rate, income level, etc. affect the population of a country.

What do each of the graphs represent? What inferences can you make about the population of Albania? What inferences can you make about the population in Denmark? What does a very narrow top on the graph mean? What could cause a wide base on the graph? What issues could cause the differences in the populations of the two countries? What other data would be helpful to further compare these two countries? What do you think caused the changes in Albania’s population from 2000 to 2050? Did Albania’s population increase or decrease from 2000-2050? For Albania, do you see any changes over time between female and male population? For Denmark, do you see any changes over time between females and males? What do you think accounts for the difference Where are Denmark and Albania located? Give relative locations for each country. Does location affect the population distribution?
