3 CCSSE Overview The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) is a national study conducted by the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin CCSSE was designed to help us assess quality in community college education; identify and learn from good educational practice; and identify areas in which we can improve programs and services for students.

4 CCSSE Overview In the Spring of 2005, nearly 130,000 community college students from 257 colleges, in 38 states participated in the CCSSE study. In the Spring of 2005, 679 Durham Tech credit students, in 68 randomly selected courses, participated in the CCSSE study.

5 CCFSSE Overview The Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSSE) is: Web-based Instrument Designed to mirror CCSSE to facilitate comparisons between student and faculty responses CCFSSE asks faculty members to respond based on a SPECIFIC COURSE they were teaching in the Spring of 2005

6 CCFSSE Overview The Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSSE) elicits information from faculty about: Their teaching practices Perceptions regarding students’ educational experiences The ways they spend their professional time OUTSIDE the classroom The ways they spend their professional time INSIDE the classroom

7 CCFSSE Data Collection Process A total of 169 part-time and full-time faculty members completed the CCFSSE in the Spring of 2005 Faculty members received an invitation directly from CCSSE facilitators in March 2005 Only faculty members teaching a course in the Spring of 2005 were invited to participate
