2 On January 1, Eight Years Ago - Peninsula Community Foundation and Community Foundation Silicon Valley Merged

Mission Silicon Valley Community Foundation is a comprehensive center of philanthropy. Through visionary leadership, strategic grantmaking and world-class experiences, we partner with donors to strengthen the common good locally and throughout the world. 3

Silicon Valley Community Foundation Today We are the largest community foundation and the 12 th largest foundation of any type in the U.S. Our donors grant more money to Bay Area nonprofits than any other foundation. We have successfully advocated and lobbied for new state laws, e.g., food stamps for homeless teens and removal of finger printing for food stamp participation. We are the 15 th largest international grantmaker in the U.S. and the largest among community foundations. 4

Community Foundations are Different from Private Foundations 5 1.SVCF can lobby in support or opposition to legislation. 2.Rather than a single endowment, SVCF has hundreds of individual donor advised funds that recommend grants to nonprofit organizations of their choice. 3.Some donors, typically through bequests, have provided SVCF with discretionary funds that we allocate.
