Step 1: Define Discipleship

If you want to build a disciple-making culture…

…you must define ‘disciple’

If you want to build a disciple-making culture… …you must define ‘disciple’

Define Discipleship What is your church’s definition?

Define Discipleship What is your church’s definition? Is it succinct, memorable and easy to share?

Define Discipleship What is your church’s definition? Is it succinct, memorable and easy to share? And could people see themselves actually achieving it?!

Disciple = ‘mathetes’ = learner

So a disciple of Jesus is someone who is trying to learn from Jesus.

If I am a learner from Jesus, then… 1. What is Jesus saying?

If I am a learner from Jesus, then… 1.What is Jesus saying? 2.What am I doing in response?

STEP 2: Disciple in Community

If I am a learner from Jesus, how did Jesus make disciples?

“Encourage one another daily” (Heb. 3:13) “Serve one another in love” (Gal. 5:13) “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”(Rom.12:10)

Leaders exist to serve and release more leaders

= the center serves the edge

Look for multiplication over addition

eg 8 : 6 : 4

Look for multiplication over addition eg 8 : 6 : (8x6=48) + (48x4=192) = 248

STEP 3: Focus on Mission

“Discipleship is the engine of mission”

“Mission Makes Disciples ”

Understand the “Missio Dei”

= everyone is a missionary

STEP 4: Release Control, Choose Accountability

STEP 5: Use a Simple Model

Coaching Huddle A place where missional leaders receive ACCOUNTABILITY and ENCOURAGEMENT

Coaching Huddle Approx 6-10 members On a regular rhythm By invitation of the leader only Complete openness

Coaching Huddle The Two Key Questions: What is Jesus saying to you? What are you doing in response?

Coaching Huddle Ask the right questions Focus on character and skills *Download from alexabsalom.com > resources

STEP 6: Reflect your Values

COME - THRIVE - GO

STEP 7: Don’t Be Intimidated!

“I was never discipled” “I don’t have all the answers” “I’m not very quick with my answers”

Next Steps Lots more on and follow me on Training: -One day conference (Oct 3) -Learning community (March 2014) Exponential West pre-conference (Oct 7-10)
