Character and Setting

Ingredients for a story soup… There are several ingredients that make up a story. Two of the most important are –The characters –The setting

When and Where? Setting – tells when and where a story takes place.

What’s the setting? When? –Summer –Noon Where? –Beach –Hawaii

What’s the setting? When? –During the day –During the week Where? –School

Who? Characters – the “who” of a story. This can be people, animals, or things.

Teamwork! Setting and characters work together to make the story interesting. When you write your story, make sure your setting and characters work together.

What characters would be in this setting? A family on vacation A stranded castaway A secret tribe of monkeys
