The Balanced Diet A successful funding matrix relies on a diverse funding diet One primary funding source can put the program at risk and does not allow for relationship building Creativity is the key when exploring possible funding initiatives

The Diverse Funding Diet Institutional support Foundations and Granting Organizations Governments funds Corporations Donors

The Diverse Funding Diet Institutional Support  What is the level of support?  What type of support can they provide?  Personnel  Supplies  Support resources  Are there revenue streams besides capitol funds?

The Diverse Funding Diet Foundations and Granting Organizations  What organizations have a prior history of giving in your community?  Study the organizations mission and match your request to their organizational goals

The Diverse Funding Diet Government Funds  Local Arts Agencies  State Arts Agencies  Federal Arts Agencies  Government Health Organizations

The Diverse Funding Diet Corporations  Investigate organizations that have a history of giving to arts and health causes  Focus on those that have ties to your community  Tap their employee base to create and history of giving

The Diverse Funding Diet Donors  Matchmaking – find donors who’s desire to give matches your mission  Partner with the organizational fundraisers to cultivate donors  Help deliver a message that creates a culture of giving  Grateful patients  Social Networking and Giving Groups

Plenty of exercise Demonstrate good stewardship of of funds  Keep track of your funds and create accurate reports about fund usage. Whether the funds come from your host institution or another source, responsible spending is the key to further investment.

Plenty of exercise Creating new avenues for funding through program growth  A robust arts program will gain attention and supporters. Be aggressive in delivering the message of your successes and program growth. Even the smallest story can spark big opportunity, and each new initiative can lead to another funding source
