BATTLE OF BOYACÁ

ON AUGUST 7TH EVERY YEAR COLOMBIA CELEBRATES THE DEFEAT OF THE SPANISH MONARCHY, KNOWN AS THE BATTLE OF BOYACÁ.

IMPORTANCE The importance of this event occurring is that the Spanish monarchy was stopped. This event also was an achievement of independence for Colombia. It was a long struggle for 2 years but the Colombian/Venezuelan forces finally pulled through with the victory.

ACTIVITIES FOR CELEBRATION Some of the activities or things that they do are, every 4 years on August 7th they hold their presidential elections. This day is also the day after the birth of their capital city of Colombia and they hold their celebration until the 7th instead of the 6th. The whole city is covered in decorations and everyone celebrates throughout Colombia.
