Each student has been assigned to a teacher as mentor, they meet every few weeks to review academic progress

Each Student is asked to volunteer at least 25 hours a school year helping others. Shop, Laundry, kitchen, janitorial, admin, etc. The student must fill out a Service Form and turn it in to be approved. They include a reflection on the experience.

New Battle name for our sports teams. Oaklawn Academy Knights" The name "Oaklawn Academy Knights" was introduced. Having a mascot and a "battle name" can contribute to a greater identification with the academy and boost the Oaklawn spirit. WHY? First to present our students with some of the qualities identified by knighthood: bravery, courtesy, honor, etc. Secondly, the initials of the name still form: O.A.K. A former student and former assistant, helped with the designs. Include not only a logo but a character that later on will be animated as a cartoon. Staff, alumni families and friends voted through our Facebook page

 The Academy received more than 550 runners grades 4-8 from around the area as we hosted Oaklawn's largest sporting event so far. Great environment, all our students participated either as athletes, volunteers or spectators
