Tea The history. The types. The benefits. Jason Phipps

Quick Facts  Tea is the second largest quantity of liquid consumed in the world.  Tea is dated back to the late 2700 B.C.  There are 3 basic categories of tea. Green, Oolong, and Black.  Historians think that tea was founded in the mountainous areas of China's far western Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.  The first tea bags were made from hand-sewn silk muslin bags.  Turkey is the #1 tea drinking country in the world. People in Turkey drink an amazing cups per day!  It is not recommended to use the water from an espresso machine or from a coffee machine when making tea since the water will be de-aerated.  Tea grew to great social prominence during the Tang ( AD) and Sung ( AD) Dynasties.

The Benefits  Originally, tea was taken as a detoxifying medicine.  Japanese scientists show that drinking up to ten cups or more in one day on a daily basis may also cut down the risks of heart and coronary diseases  Use a black tea bag to kill warts.  Have a bad odor in your fridge? Place a used tea bag in the refrigerator overnight and the bad odor will be gone the next day.  Women often times use tea bags over their eyes to help reduce puffiness and swelling.  Nursing mothers have found benefit from using used tea bags on their nipples to ease discomfort and tenderness.

Different Types of Tea

How Tea Came About  Legend has it that a Chinese emperor was the first to discover Tea when some leaves were blown by chance into a bowl containing boiling hot water. The tea we drink today is exactly the same and the brewing process has never been interfered with.  “According to another legend, tea was discovered by a poor woodcutter who was chopping trees in the hills when he saw several monkeys plucking leaves off a tree and chewing them. He tasted some of the leaves, liked it and brought some back to the village. He told others of his discovery and soon, everyone was adding leaves from the tree to their drinks.”

Money Maker “The most expensive teabag in the world was made for the 75'th anniversary of the PG TIPS tea company. The bag was filled with two hundred and eighty diamonds and expensive limited edition tea leaves. The bag cost 7,500 pounds and was sold at auction in aid of a Children's hospital in the United Kingdom.” “The most expensive teabag in the world was made for the 75'th anniversary of the PG TIPS tea company.
