6 INNO-MED (UHO) Activities Carried Out So Far Period 1: September – December 2005  Establishment of the project team at University Hospital clinicians, clinician-teachers, IT specialists, administrators, (financial) managers…  Cooperation with project partners at the regional level (Association of Municipalities „Hranicko Region“, Community Hospital in Hranice)  Survey on EBM knowledge & implementation among University Hospital staff  „Report on contemporary health services concerning issues of evidence-based care and practice“ (Prof. V. Janout, MD. PhD., clinical epidemiologist)  Presentation and promotion of INNO-MED project at the local level

7 EBM Survey  Pilot opinion poll was performed to examine knowledge and implementation level of EBM principles in healthcare settings University Hospital in Olomouc, 343 respondents.  Questionnaire structure 1. Do you have sufficient information of how to use Evidence Based Medicine? 2. Have you been using Evidence Based Medicine in your clinical practice? 3. What are the major obstacles to using Evidence Based Medicine? 4. Are you interested in improving your knowledge of Evidence Based Medicine? 5. Your age?

8 EBM Survey Results  27% of respondents had sufficient information to use EBM.  26 % of respondents confirmed practical use of EBM.  Lack of time (29%) and lack of information (24%) were considered major obstacles to using EBM.  About 80% of respondents showed interest in EBM training.

9 INNO-MED (UHO) Activities Carried Out So Far Period 2 (January - June 2006 )  Regular meetings of project team on a weekly basis  Work contacts with project partners at the regional level (Community Hospitals Hranice and Prostějov) EBM survey, data collection & assessment  Seminars for clinicians and IT staff  Elaboration of report „Clinical knowledge retrieval and appraisal“  Project presentation and promotion

10 Seminar for Clinicians EBM Implementation in Clinical Practice Agenda  INNOMED presentation  Theoretical basis of EBM  EBM implementation in healthcare delivery  Biomedical information resources and search for best evidence (online demonstration) Target group  Medical doctors of UHO, project partners, stakeholders, policy makers, university teachers. Results  Higher level of EBM awareness and improved knowledge of information resources and search skills  Incentives for further training in EBM Serious interest confirmed during discussion of participants.

13 Seminar for IT Specialists : Technical Support & System Maintenance for Clinical Practice Respecting EBM Agenda  INNOMED presentation  EBM definition for IT staff  Automate an instal Windows XP Professional  Configure and manage hardware on a computer running Windows XP Professional  Configure and manage file systems  Troubleshoot the boot process and other system issues  Configure the desktop environment, and use profiles to control desktop customization  Monitor resources and performance. Target group  IT professionals in healthcare services from Central Moravia NUTS 2, eg. UHO, Faculty of Medicine /Palacky University Olomouc/, Community Hospitals Hranice and Prostějov Results  Enhanced IT support in clinical settings, better level of awareness about EBM by IT staff, better understanding hospital clinicians´ EBM needs, sharing experience among healthcare IT specialists in Central Moravia.
