Presentation transcript:

Aha Moment

 Your own  Mysteries/suspense  Math – when you finally figure how to solve the problem  These are Aha Moments  When you realize something, and that realization, in some way, changes our actions.

 This is that moment when a character realizes or understands something that until that point he had not known.  That realization will probably change his or her actions in some way  Helps the reader to better understand how the character’s actions are related to the conflict, the progression of the plot, or theme.

 Text Clues – phrases that indicate either a sudden or a growing awareness that point to some understanding that the character has finally reached  Examples:  Suddenly I realized  Now I understand  In an instant I saw  It came to me in a flash  I now knew  I finally understood that  It occurred to me  These clues tell you that this moment is important.

 Once you identify the Aha Moment, stop and ask yourself  How might this change things?  If the character figured out a problem, you probably just learned about the conflict.  If the character understood a life lesson, you probably just learned the theme.
