Reporting of Final Summative Assessment Results The ultimate goal of reporting of student performance on the Final Summative Assessment is an essential piece to the success of this practice. The results and annual reports will be used as evidence to support decisions made about students’ learning at the school and the Department of Education level; to improve instruction in the classroom and provide opportunities for professional development and best practice principles. The results and annual reports will be used as evidence to support decisions made about students’ learning at the school and the Department of Education level; to improve instruction in the classroom and provide opportunities for professional development and best practice principles.

Recording Results from the Final Summative Assessment Upon completion and grading of each student’s summative assessment and class mark, teachers are required to record these results for each of their courses in the “Maplewood – connectEd” system.

Course Weighting of Final Summative Assessments Maplewood – connectEd will automatically calculate the final course mark with the preset weights of Summative: 30% and Class Mark: 70%. For Grade 12 courses with an Alberta Diploma Exam, the view in connectEd will be the same. When the Alberta Dipolma Exam results are entered by Alberta (after the course has been completed), the final mark will be automatically calculated by connectEd with the preset weights of Summative: 15%, Class Mark: 35% and ADE Mark: 50%. Recording the Calculated Marks on Maplewood

Section One: Calculated Marks The Summative Assessment Practice states that teachers must submit the following information at the end of their course: 1.overall class average on the Final Summative Assessment; 2.overall class average by Big Idea or outcome cluster; 3.each student’s overall mark on the Final Summative Assessment (worth 30% of final mark) and their mark breakdown by Big Idea or outcome cluster. 4.Each student’s class mark worth 70% of final mark 5.final course marks (and overall class average) The Summative Assessment Practice states that teachers must submit the following information at the end of their course: 1.overall class average on the Final Summative Assessment; 2.overall class average by Big Idea or outcome cluster; 3.each student’s overall mark on the Final Summative Assessment (worth 30% of final mark) and their mark breakdown by Big Idea or outcome cluster. 4.Each student’s class mark worth 70% of final mark 5.final course marks (and overall class average)

Class Markbook within connectEd This screenshot is within the Class Markbook section in connectEd and shows the “Summative Assessment” Topic broken down into the Outcome Clusters (in this case, the four units for Science 10). Teachers can customize the weighting of each Cluster and Markbook will calculate the Final Summative Assessment mark accordingly. If this Class Markbook function is used, the weighted average is the average that automatically appears in the “Summat” column in the previous screenshot. Note: for those who do not feel comfortable using Class Markbook can still input their Summat mark in themselves.

Final Accumulated Marks This screenshot is within the Class Achievement section in connectEd and shows the “Accumulated Mark” that was automatically calculated by Maplewood using the preset 30/70 weighting. The mark presented in the Topic column is the mark that will show on the student’s final report card. Teachers do not need to type or calculate anything here, it is purely a page where the teacher can now make comments or notes that will be used in the written portion of the Final Summative Assessment Report.

Section Two: Written Anecdotal Information The report must also include information that looks at the progress made over the year in performance goals and suggested instructional improvements. It also includes goals and improvements for the next year. The purpose of this portion of the report is to aid teachers in continual development and improvement to their programs, ultimately to ensure the students will receive instruction using best practices, enhance their school experiences and to prepare them for success in their educational futures.
