“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” ~ Joseph Addison ~

Building Background What is Guided Reading?

Building Background The ultimate goal in guided reading is to help children learn how to use independent reading strategies successfully. The overall purpose is to enable children to read for meaning at all times. What is the purpose of guided reading? This reminds me of the time when I went fishing. I wonder what will happened next.

Running Records When a student reads aloud, a teacher can observe reading behaviors and make note of what the student is thinking and doing. Oral reading miscues reveal a student’s reading strategies. Miscues can be analyzed to make instructional decisions that are “tailored” to the student’s needs. On your mark, get set… Go!!!

The Animal Picnic The animals had a picnic To celebrate the fair. They all brought something tasty For everyone to share. The lambs brought yams. The bees brought peas. The poodles brought noodles All sprinkled with cheese. The cheetahs brought pitas. The mice brought rice. The moose brought juice And a bucket of ice. The pigs brought figs. The bears brought pears. The apes brought grapes And some picnic chairs. The raccoons brought spoons. The moles brought bowls. The storks brought forks And some cinnamon rolls. The snakes brought cakes And I brought the tea. It was a wild picnic- Just the animals and me! Look and Listen.

My Goldfish See my new pet? This is my goldfish. I will name my goldfish Goldie. My goldfish has gills. Gills help fish breathe in water. My goldfish has fins. Fins help fish swim. I have a tank for Goldie. The tank is her home. I put rocks at the bottom of the tank. I put a plant in the tank, too. Goldie swims in her new home. Sometimes Goldie hides behind the plant. I feed Goldie goldfish food. Goldie swims up to eat the food. Sometimes I have to put clean water in the tank. I use a net to take Goldie out of the tank. I try not to scare Goldie. Practice makes perfect!
