THIS A LANDMARK YEAR FOR FREEMASONRY IN THE FIRST STATE AS THE MOST WORSHIPFUL GRAND LODGE OF DELAWARE CELEBRATES ITS BICENTENNIAL. SPECIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ARE ALREADY UNDERWAY.

It Began at Grand Lodge in october, 2005 M.W. William Wadkins, M.W. P.Donald Carey and Bro. Carl Cox, representing the Delaware Colonials, announced the formation of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Delaware. The colonial gentlemen then joined R.W. Ronald Conaway and M.W. Donald Thomas in toasting the Grand Lodge!

AND IT CONTINUED at THE Grand Lodge OF MARYLAND in NOVEMBER, 2005 M.W. Ronald Belanger, Grand Master of Masons in Maryland, noticed a person in Grand Lodge who was wearing a hat!. That person turned out to be none other than Jesse Green, second Grand Master in Delaware, who was there to inform the Grand Lodge of Maryland that the $124 owed by Hope Lodge #4 in Laurel, Delaware had been paid. As the debt was finally cleared, “Bro. Green” asked the Grand Lodge of Maryland for recognition. M.W. Belanger then presented a plaque to M.W. Ronald W. Conaway, formally extending the recognition of the Grand Lodge of Maryland to the Grand Lodge of Delaware for the first time.

General Thomas Alfred Smyth The last Union General to die in the Civil War Received all three degrees in one day in March, 1865 from Washington Lodge #1, less than a month before he was killed by a sniper in Virginia Saturday, March 18, 2006, the M.W. Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. of Delaware, in conjunction with the Sons of Union Veterans, honored General Smyth with a reenactment of his Masonic funeral. The ceremonies began at 818 Market Street in Wilmington, with a procession to the Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery.

That funeral will be re-enacted, Saturday, May 13 at Battery Park in Delaware City. The event starts at 10:30am, followed by a picnic. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Be sure to attend Grand Lodge Day at Highfield Saturday, June 3, In addition to the usual food and fellowship, the days’ events will be capped off by a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of Gunning Bedford, Jr., our first Grand Master of Masons in Delaware.

SATURDAY, JUNE 10 Beginning at 4pm GRAND LODGE PARADE & GALA DINNER Parade from 818 Market Street to Old Town Hall for historic marker ceremony. Gala dinner at Harry’s Savoy Grill
