Lunch at the Oakland Library In California last summer, 84% of children who received free or subsidized meals during the school year did not participate in a summer lunch program, in part due to the lack of summer school sites. --California Food Policy Advocates “School’s Out Who Ate” Annual Report. Children eating free lunch at Cesar Chavez Branch Library, OPL

Let’s Do Lunch! Staffing (clerical, custodial, and programmatic) Facility (in the library, or in the meeting room? Either works) Outreach (target community? Other nearby sites?) Program (Tie it in to summer reading with lunch-hour staffing levels in mind) Nearly 8,500 meals were served over 9 weeks during OPL’s Lunch at the Library, 2012.
