Occupational Safety and Health Act Natalie Espinosa/Period 2 APES OSHA

Occupational Safety and Health Act  Draft Year: 1970  Purpose: Congress passed the Act to ensure worker and workplace safety.  Goal: was to make sure employers provide their workers a place of employment free from recognized hazards to safety and health, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, or unsanitary conditions.

Organization  OSHA is part of the United States Department of Labor.  The administrator for OSHA is the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health.  that oversees the administration of the Act and enforces standards in all 50 states.  OSHA's administrator answers to the Secretary of Labor, who is a member of the cabinet of the President of the United States.
