“THE CAPTAIN OF INDUSTRY” ANDREW CARNEGIE Do your duty and a little more and the future will take care of itself – Andrew Carnegie Daniel Moreira Lisette Romo Tuba Azam Ryan Moore

Andrew Carnegie started off as a messenger boy, and worked his way towards a position at the Pennsylvania railroad. While working there, he made $35 a month. Conquered several occupations leading his way into a more superior position. He swiftly obtained the Keystone Bridge Company ™. As time progressed, Carnegie achieved massive amounts of money. He eventually sold his steel company to a financer named JP Morgan for $480 million Resulting in him becoming the richest man in the world during the 19 th century.

Carnegie professed himself as a friend of labor His view of labor was shaped by his childhood experiences. Carnegie’s actions and statements lay within a philosophical and moral framework that he considered logical and consistent. He created this framework to improve society. Once he got his mind set to this philosophy he never drifted away from it.

Carnegie spent most of his money on libraries, schools, and universities. He invested on railroads and bridges.

In Scotland he donated $10 million in 1901 to establish the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland. In 1886, he donated $250,000 to Allegheny City for a music hall and library. He donated $2 million in 1901 to start the Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT) at Pittsburgh. He opened The Broome County public library in October of By the time his life was over, he donated about $350 million.

Carnegie created the steel industry and set a model for other big businesses and industries. He has arguably contributed more than anyone else to advance America into modernity. He had a strong emphasis on control, efficiency, and qualification. Carnegie has been characterized as a transformational leader; a “charismatic visionary with a great passion” He has been known as the greatest philanthropist the United States ever had.

Andrew Carnegie, a successful Scottish-American industrialist who expanded the steel industry. According to the his achievements and the choices he’s made, it’s safe to say he was a “Captain of Industry” during the 19th and 20th century. Andrew initially started off as just a regular immigrant, like most of the population, and worked hard to get to the top. He donated and contributed a lot of society. Andrew Carnegie also supported the “gospel of wealth” idea, which essentially describes that the wealthy should use their money to support the rest of society.
