Managing an Incident (Action Plan) First Aid for Cadets Managing an Incident (Action Plan)

A.M.E.G.A Assess. Make safe. Emergency aid. Get help. After care.

Assess Stop (only fools rush in). Look (use your eyes, ears and nose). Think (who is involved, what happened, when did it happen, why did it happen and what resources have I got).

Make Safe Turn off. Engines, electric, gas, water, etc. In case someone is on fire Stop, Drop, Wrap and Roll. For drowning reach and throw do not go. For electric shock disconnect at fuse board first. If in any doubt, get help first, better one casualty than two.

Emergency Aid Emergency aid is only given by someone that is qualified. This is covered in the one star training.

Getting Help When you phone, decide who you need, ambulance, police, fire, coast guard ,mine rescue, mountain and moor rescue. There are other types of help such as electric board, gas board, rail and water. Help from the public e.g. crowd/traffic control, getting help…

Getting Help. To fetch medical supplies. Control bleeding. To maintain casualty privacy. Help to put casualty into recovery position. To move casualty away from danger.

After Care Your job does not finish when the ambulance arrives you need to pass on information. Name ,address. History (what happened ). Brief description of injuries. Any unusual behaviour.

After Care Any treatment given. Observation made on breathing, pulse and levels of response. Minor cases arrange a lift home.

One Last Thing to Remember Some of the things a first aider sees or gets involved in, could cause shock and be upsetting. Speak too someone, don’t just suck it up.
