Casualty Reduction Better Driving Education Engineering Public Support ENFORCEMENT Local and National Policies

INTRODUCTION Dorset Police in Partnership is working to reduce casualties in line with Government’s 2010 targets based on 1994 – 1998 mean. The mean KSI casualty total was 479. Our target to meet by 2010 is to reduce this figure by 40%. This gives us a target of 287. The mean Child KSI casualty total was 48. Our target to meet this by 2010 is to reduce this figure by 50%. This gives us a target of 24.

CURRENT At the start of DSCP in 2002 there were 550 KSI casualties and 43 child KSI Casualties. Progress – 2006 – 371 KSI Casualties & 25 Child KSI Casualties.

Partnership Approach to Reducing Casualties Road Safety Tasking & Co-ordinating Group Dorset Safety Camera Partnership Membership – Police, HMCS, CPS, Dorset Fire and Rescue, Dorset, Bournemouth & Poole Authorities each providing a Traffic Engineer and Road Safety Officer. Tackling problems – Education, Engineering and Enforcement
