Kuwait was an English colony combined with Iraq. In 1923 it split from Iraq. It was protected by England untill 1961.
Saddam controlled Kuwait His forces were surrounding the border Of Saudi Arabia.
The U.S., Being allies with Saudi Arabia, sent a massive amount of troops to Saudi Arabia. It was the largest amount of mobilized troops since Vietnam.

Day three Ground attack The Biggest tank battle since the Battle of Kursk during WWII. The U.S. decimated the Iraqi tank forces, and lost no tanks in the battle
